A pimple, zit or spot is a kind of acne, and one of the many results of excess oil getting trapped in the pores. Some of the varieties are pustules or papules. Pimples can be treated by various acne medications prescribed by a dermatologist, or purchased at a drug store with a wide variety of treatments.

Causes of Pimples:

Pimples are caused when the sebaceous glands
at the base of hair follicles become overactive; the most vulnerable parts of the body are the face, back, chest and shoulders. The sebaceous glands, which produce sebum, exist inside the pores of our skin. The outer layers of our skin are being shed continuously.
Sometimes, dead skin cells are left behind and get stuck together by the sticky sebum, causing a blockage in the pore. Pore blockage is more likely to occur during puberty (the process of physical changes by which a child's body becomes an adult body capable of reproduction). More sebum is produced by the sebaceous gland - as the pore is blocked, it accumulates behind the blockage.
This accumulated and blocked sebum has bacteria, including Propionibacterium acnes; this slow-growing bacterium is linked to acne. Propionibacterium acnes generally exist harmlessly on our skin - however, when the conditions are right, it can reproduce more rapidly and become a problem. The bacterium feeds off the sebum and produces a substance that causes an immune response, leading to inflammation of the skin and spots.
The skin of people who are prone to acne are especially sensitive to normal blood levels of testosterone - a natural hormone found in both males and females. In such people the testosterone can make the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, making the clogging up of dead skin cells more likely, which in turn increases the probability of blocking the pores.

Treatments for Pimples

Here are some home remedies for pimples.
  • Pound and place mint leaves all over your face for 10-15 minutes. Remove all the leaves and wash your face with cold water. Do not rub leaves on skin as it may cause skin irritation if you already have pimples.
  • Use multani-mitti (Indian fuller's earth) as a mask if you have very oily skin. Add rose water to fuller's earth. This mask will help absorb oil and prevent pimples. Do not over use this mask. You can use it once a week. Avoid using this mask if your skin is very sensitive and dry.

शिरोधारा एलाकिझी

ललाट पर गिरकर कपाट के साथ बहते गर्म तेल से मानो भीतर की सारी थकान, जडता पिघल-पिघल कर नीचे रिस रही थी। मेरे लिए यह पहला अनुभव था। इतना घूमने के बाद भी स्पा या आयुर्वेदिक मसाज के प्रति कोई उत्साह मेरे भीतर नहीं जागा था, पहली बार केरल जाकर भी नहीं। इसलिए केरल की दूसरी यात्रा में कैराली में मिला यह अहसास काफी अनूठा था क्योंकि शिरोधारा के बारे में काफी कुछ सुना था। माथे पर बहते तेल को एक जोडी सधे हाथ सिर पर मल रहे थे। दूसरे जोडी हाथ बाकी बदन का जिम्मा संभाले हुए थे। यूं तो अभ्यांगम समूचे बदन पर मालिश की अलग चिकित्सा अपने आप में है, लेकिन बाकी तमाम चिकित्साओं में भी सीमित ही सही, कुछ मालिश तो पूरे बदन की हो ही जाती है। फिल्मों, कहानी-किस्सों में राजाओं, नवाबों, जागीरदारों की मालिश करते पहलवानों के बारे में देखा-सुना था, मेरे लिए यह साक्षात वैसा ही अनुभव था। फर्क बस इतना था कि दोनों बगल में पहलवान नहीं थे बल्कि केरल की पंचकरमा और आयुर्वेद चिकित्सा में महारत हासिल दो मालिशिये थे। हर हाथ सधा हुआ था। निपुणता इतनी कि बदन पर ऊपर-नीचे जाते हाथों में सेकेंड का भी फर्क नहीं। ट्रीटमेंट कक्ष में कोई घडी नहीं थी लेकिन पूरी प्रक्रिया के तय समय में कोई हेरफेर नहीं। थेरेपिस्ट की कुशलता और उसका प्रशिक्षण कैराली की पहचान है। लगभग पचास मिनट तक गहन मालिश के बाद शरीर के पोर-पोर से मानो तेल भीतर रिसता है (बताते हैं कि शिरोधारा में लगभग दो लीटर तेल माथे पर गिरता है, तेल में नहाना तो इसके लिए बडी सामान्य सी संज्ञा होगी)।

जिन्हें इसका अनुभव नहीं है, उनके लिए पहला मौका बडा मिला-जुला होगा, कभी बदन पर गरम तेल रखे जाते ही बेचैनी सी होगी तो, कभी लगेगा मानो बदन टूट रहा हो और कभी निचुडती थकान आपको मदहोश सा कर देगी। लेकिन कुल मिलाकर ऐसा पुरसुकून अहसास जो आपको पहली बार के बाद दूसरी बार के लिए बुलाता रहेगा। मालिश, जिसे रिजॉर्ट अपनी भाषा में ट्रीटमेंट या थेरेपी कहते हैं (आखिर मालिश बडा देहाती-सा लगता है) के बाद चिकना-चिपुडा बदन लेकर स्टीम रूम में ले जाया जाता है। सिर से नीचे के हिस्से को एक बक्से में बंद कर दिया जाता है और उसमें भाप प्रवाहित की जाती है। मालिश से बाद शरीर से निकले तमाम विषाणु भाप के चलते बाहर आ जाते हैं और पांच मिनट के भाप स्नान के बाद गरम पानी से स्नान आपके शरीर को तरोताजा कर देता है। वह ताजगी आपको आपको फिर वहां लौटने के लिए प्रेरित करती है, जैसे कि मुझे, लेकिन मैंने इस बार एलाकिझी थेरेपी चुनी। इसमें कपडे की थैलियों में औषधीय पत्तियां व पाउडर बंधा होता है और उन थैलियों को गर्म तेल में भिगोकर उससे पूरे बदन की मालिश की जाती है।

Ayurvedic Herbs


Pizhichil - It is one among the rare and special treatments of Kerala. In this treatment, lukewarm herbal oils are applied all over the body by two to four trained therapists in a special rhythmic way continuously for about 60 to 90 minutes per day for a period of 7 to 21 days. This treatment is done in a special table made from a single piece of Strychnos Nuxvomica wood. This treatment is very useful for Rheumatic diseases like arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, paralysis "C agitanus, sexual weakness, nervous weakness and nervous disorders etc.

Njavarakizhi - It is a type of sudation process in which the whole body or any specific part thereof is made to perspire by the application of certain medicinal puddings externally in the form of boluses tied up in muslin bag. Two to four masseurs apply this for about GO to 90 minutes per day for a period of 14 days. This treatment is for all types of rheumatism, pain in the joints, emaciation of limbs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and certain kind of skin diseases. Sirodhara means Head and Dhara means the continuous flow of a liquid. In this process some herbal oils, medicated milk, medicated butter milk etc, are poured on the forehead in a special method of about 40 minutes in a day for a period f 7 to 21 days. This treatment is mainly for insomnia, loss of memory, headaches, mental tension and certain skin diseases.

Ayurvedic treatment

Vasthi - Otherwise known as Medicated Enema. Vasthi is a Therapeutic procedure in which certain herbal oils, herbal extracts, etc are applied through the rectum daily for a period of 5 to 25 days. This treatment is effective for arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, numbness, gastric complaints, rheumatism and chronic constipation.

Sirovasthi - Certain lukewarm herbal oils are poured into a cap fitted on the head and held for 15 to 60 minutes per day according to the patient’s conditions for a period of 07 days. This treatment is highly effective for facial paralysis, dryness of nostrils, mouth and throat, severe headaches and other diseases of the head.

Udvarthanam - This treatment is otherwise known as Powder Massage. This is found very effective in the obesity, hemiplegia, paralysis, skin diseases, impaired circulation etc and similar diseases. In this procedure 2 therapists apply certain special Herbal Powders in a peculiar way on the body for about 30 to 40 minutes daily for a period of 14 to 28 days.

Abhyangarn - This is a special type of oil massage in which strokes arte given according to the circulatory channels for 45 minutes per day for 14 days. This treatment is very useful for obesity, loss of skin luster, sleeplessness and fatigue.

Nasyani - Being one among the Panchakarma procedures, Nasyam is a treatment in which herbal juices, medicated oils etc, are applied through nose for 7 to 14 days. This treatment is highly effective for certain kinds of headaches, paralysis mental disorders, some types of skin diseases etc.

Kizhi - Herbal leaves or powders are made in boluses and are applied on the whole body or a part specified after dipping it in warm medicated oils. This is done for 45 minutes daily for a period of 07 to 14 days. This is very effective for osteo arthritis, spondylosis, sports injuries etc.

Sandhi Vatha Chikilsa - Unlike the modern medicine Ayurveda has very effective cures for Arthritic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteo arthritis, ankylosing spondylosis, cervical spondylosis, osteo porosis etc. This programme includes massage, lepanam, and oil application on affected parts, kizhi, steam bath, snehavasthy, kakshaya vasthy, pizhichil, njavarakizhi, snehapanam and internal medicines.

Panchakarma - A Complete body purification Treatment

As the name indicates that it relates to panch karma (five actions).It is part of ancient ayurvedic treatment developed in India. It used to purify human body by eliminating toxic waste of body and make balance of Pitta, Kaugha and Vata. Panchakarma enhance the metabolic process by herbal medicine and oil massages. The five action of panchakarma are described below. Before panchkarma, purvakarma (primary action) is done. There are two aspects of purvakarma, Snehanam (Oleation) and Swedanam (sweating).

Vamanam Karma (Vomiting): Vamana Karma is used to avoid Kapha disorders like Bronchitis, Cold, Asthma, Sinus, & Excess mucus. When there is congestion in the lungs causing repeated attacks of bronchitis, cold and cough. Vamanam is administrated to eliminate the Kapha causing the excess mucus.

Virechanam (Purgation): This process is used to cure pitta doshas (disorders) like skin disorders, Acidity, Heart burn, Peptic ulcer, Jaundice, Intestinal parasites. Virechana is induced by administering herbal purgatives given orally which passes through whole gut and eliminate excessive pitta.

Basti Karma (Enema); It is very effective for vatta disorders like Chronic Constipation, bloated stomach, gases, malnourished people, sexual disorders, constipation, backache, Spinal pain. The procedure deals with loosened Vata dosha removal out of the body through the rectum. Medicated oil or decoction is administered through the anus to pacify the aggravated air.

Anuvaasan : In anuvaasan medicated oil used for for anema. It is useful in all vatta aggravated diseases like joint disorders, paralysis, constipation, arthritis. This treatment does not given to patient of asthma, anemia, and obesity.

Nasyam (nasal therapy): In nasya process the herbal medicine are given through nostrils. This therapy is highly effective in curing of disease pertaining to the head because the nose is gateway of head. After performing this process systematically it cleanses and opens the channel of head, thereby it improve the oxygenation.
